Architect Rick Cook will present a lecture on his firm’s presence in the world of Green Architecture and will discuss the construction of the Bank of America Tower, said to be the most environmentally responsible high-rise office building in the United States Cost: $8 members, $10 non-members. April 27 - Lecture and Book signing with author Frank Lloyd Wright in New York: The Plaza Years by Jane King Hession
Author Jane King Hession will present an engaging lecture on her book Frank Lloyd Wright in New York: The Plaza Years, which explores the contradiction between Wright’s often-voiced disdain of New York and his pride and pleasure in living in a great Manhattan landmark: The Plaza Hotel. Hession’s lecture will explore the sophistication and vigor of Wright’s final years, a time when he was an architect of legend and a bona fide celebrity and New York was basking in postwar prosperity. May 3 – Tupperware Party Fundraiser
Donate to Price Tower Arts Center’s education programs by attending this event and purchasing Tupperware. Tupperware rep Rene -------  will donate 20% of all proceeds back to Price Tower Arts Center. Join a fun traditional Tupperware party with games and prizes and a presentation of old and new products and how they've changed in 43 years. Orders will be placed at the event. Time: 1pm – 3pm. Cost: Admission free.

Nancy HoranMay 8 – Nancy Horan Loving Frank book signing
Seattle author Nancy Horan became fascinated with Frank Lloyd Wright’s life and work while residing in Oak Park, Illinois—the location of many of Wright’s early buildings.  In her 2007 book, Loving Frank: A Novel, recently released in paperback, Horan tells the story of Wright’s famed love affair with Mamah Borthwick Cheney, the wife of one of his clients.  A groundbreaking historical novel, Loving Frank blends fact with fiction and draws the reader into a timeless love story that met a tragic end.  Read Loving Frank by Nancy Horan. Books available in The Wright Place museum store at Price Tower. Horan will sign copies of her book at Price Tower Arts Center, 510 Dewey Ave, Bartlesville, Okla. from 6:00-6:45pm and then hold a public talk at the Bartlesville Public Library Community Room from 7:00-8:00pm. May 10 – Preserving Your Personal Artifacts
Led by Kay Johnson, Price Tower Arts Center Registrar and Manager of Architecture Study Center, this class will teach methods anyone can use to safely display and store their personal artifacts including artwork, photographs, documents, garments and textiles. The class will be part presentation, demonstration and hands-on participation so those attending are asked to bring in 2-3 documents or photographs they would like to preserve. May 22 –Dinnerware Lecture by Sarah Lichtman
Sarah A. Lichtman, Assistant Professor of Design History at Parsons, The New School for Design, New York City, will present a talk entitled "The Natural Table: Russel Wright, Manitoga, and Nature's Influence" examining the role of nature in the Wright's designs for tableware as well as ways it which it served to inspire Manitoga, his home and studio in upstate New York. JUNE

June 1 – Tulsa Self-Guided Architecture Tour
Presented by Price Tower Arts Center and featuring the architecture of Bruce Goff and Gene Starr.  Six unique and beautiful homes will be open to visitors between 12 noon and 4 pm.  Afterward, tour participants are invited to gather at the Spotlight Theater for drinks, light hor’ doevres and a Chautauqua presentation by Ted Catchall as Frank Lloyd Wright. Tickets available through Price Tower Arts Center.  Proceeds will benefit the Arts Center’s Architecture Study Center program.  Time: 12-4pm  Cost: $40 members, $50 non-members. June 5 – Ella Howard Lecture ’Occupation—Housewife’: Postwar Entertaining and American Gender Roles
Ella Howard, PhD, independent historian, will examine advertising, advice manuals, designed objects and interiors  from the 1950's and 1960's while exploring  the advice women were given on the subject of home entertaining during  the modern era. Time: 6:30pm Cost: $4 public, free to current members.

June 19 – Arn Henderson Lecture: The Power of Music in the Architecture of Bruce Goff – an OK Mozart Showcase Event
Arn Henderson, FAIA, Professor Emeritus of Architecture at the University of OKlahom, will discuss the role music played in the development of Goff’s architectural designs, many in the Bartlesville area. Henderson has authored numerous books and is currently working on a manuscript on Goff. Time: 3:30-4:15pm Cost:  Free.

June 17 - Tower Tots “Hand Printed Placemats”

June 26—Lecture by Scott Perkins, Covering the Surface: Vera Neumann and the Printed Pattern
Scott W. Perkins, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, will present a short history of designer and entrepreneur Vera Neumann (1910-1993), known for her printed wallpapers, fabrics, table linens, and scarves sold under the name ‘Vera.’  Also explored will be the origins of Neumann’s company, the Printex Corporation of America, and her connections to modern artists and architects, her love of American folk art, and her passion for collecting. Time: 6:30pm. Cost: Cost: $4 public, free to current members.

ARKIDTECTURE SUMMER CAMP

ArKIDtecture CampJuly 7 – 31, 2008 - ArKIDtecture Camp
This brand new day camp program offers summer fun  for children ages 7 to 13.  Under the guidance of local art instructor Erinn Rakes, campers will have four ways to experience Frank Lloyd Wright’s historic Price Tower by participating in hands-on creative activities. . Each tract will meet for a half-day session once or twice per week over a four week period.  Each tract incorporates indoor and outdoor activities that teach campers basic concepts of architecture and design. Choose one or more tracts to match your interest.  Advance registration is required. All supplies will be provided. Scholarships available by application. Tract 1: “What is a…Graphic Designer?”: Creating a Landmark Calendar Monday, 9am-Noon (ages 9-12)
Class size: 20 campers
Learn about graphic design while creating a “Landmark Calendar” of significant buildings and structures in downtown Bartlesville. Techniques taught include photography in collage, photo-montage, and computer graphics. Campers will participate in a walking tour of downtown Bartlesville, use learning resources at the Bartlesville Public Library, and visit the Arts Center’s Architecture Study Center. Cost: $90.
      
Tract 2: Price Tower Arts Center Junior Docent Program
Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 am-Noon (ages 10-13)
Class size: 10 campers
Ever want to be a tour guide in a museum?  This camp offers a chance to conduct public tours of the Price Tower. through role playing, history lessons, and hands-on training.  Campers will increase their understanding of architecture, and practice speaking in public while conducting  tours of the Arts Center’s historic interiors.  Each camp will be assigned an adult docent, who will continue to mentor students upon completion of the course. Cost: $125. Junior docent students will eligible to receive a rebate on a portion of their class fees by completing volunteer service at Price Tower Arts Center.
      
ArKIDtecture CampTract 3: MathArt Thursday, 9am – Noon (ages 7 and 8) Class size:: 30 campers
Designed to explore the links between mathematics and art, MathArt will teach campers the importance of math skills through the creation of artistic forms and the study of the Price Tower’s geometric “language.”  Lead by local art and math teachers with the assistance of Arts Center volunteers, campers will discover the art of mathematics through the creation of tangrams, tessellations, and string art pictures as well as learn basic concepts of art and design. Cost: $90.
      
Tract 4: Building Bartlesville, Thursday, 1pm-4pm (ages 9-12)
Class size: 20 campers
Explore downtown Bartlesville on foot to document the various architectural and artistic components that are found in a city.  A brief history of building types and styles, landscape architecture, city planning, and public works of art will be taught as campers work cooperatively to “redesign” downtown Bartlesville.  This camp culminates in the assembly of a miniature “box city” complete with buildings, roads, parks, and public artwork.  Cost: $90.

August 2 - Mid-Century Centerpieces Class with Eva Riter of Eva's Flowers and Gifts  Eva will teach a class on centerpiece flower design. All supplies provided. To register call 918.336.4949 or register online. Time: 1:00-3:00pm. Cost: $30.00 for the public, $25.00 for members.
