Imaginative Qualities - PET project3-logy Triennial 2008: “Imaginative Qualities of Actual Things”
Guest Curated by Michaela Merryday, PhD, Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Tulsa. The triennial exhibition series, 3-logy, will showcase contemporary works of art, architecture, and design produced or manufactured during the three-year period preceding the exhibition’s opening.  Formulated to encompass the three concentrations of Price Tower Arts Center’s collections, and with a not to the triangularity of Frank Lloyd Wright’s design, 3-logy will feature up-and-coming and established artists, architects, and designers whose work is emblematic of the central theme of each triennial exhibition. Many of the artists  are exploring the manipulation of common objects to create secondary functions and works of art. Through their reconsideration of everyday things—such as bamboo skewers, puzzle pieces, punched paper, shopping bags, and even skyscrapers—the featured artists and designers are able to convey new ideas and fresh perspectives into issues of production, display, decoration, and use.  Organized by Price Tower Arts Center. Made possible in part by Knightsbridge Advisors, Media support provided by KJRH Channel 2 NBC, Oklahoma Magazine and Bartlesville Examiner Enterprise..

Fallingwater en Perspectiva: Félix de la Concha Paints Frank Lloyd Wright’s House on the Waterfall
As one of the world’s most celebrated buildings, Fallingwater helped define twentieth-century modernism.  A darling of photographers, Fallingwater is, nevertheless, a daunting subject for painters.  This is not the case with Félix de la Concha’s interpretations of Wright’s masterpiece.  Through insight gained from more than a year on site, de la Concha (b. 1962, Léon, Spain) carefully crafted paintings that affirm more than just the architectural ideas behind the surface, they are a meditation on the spirit of the place.  De la Concha’s paintings welcome us into the Kaufmans’ home, and Fallingwater’s grace and artistry remain as fresh as the nature into which it fits.   This exhibition is made possible in part by The Coury Collection, the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Centuries of Progress: American World’s Fairs, 1853-1982
1904 Ferris WheelFrom the time of the first World’s Fair in London in 1851 until the 1982 fair in Knoxville, Tennessee, international expositions celebrated progress, trade, and goodwill.  These fairs were the marketplaces of ideas and technological innovation.  Many familiar consumer goods that are now part of the fabric of American life – from Wonder Bread to Juicy Fruit gum – were either introduced or popularized at world’s fairs.  Fair-goers also experienced art, architecture, design, music, popular culture, and entertainment.  The fairs shaped both our American experience and our world view while promising a better standard of living for all.  This exhibition is made possible in part by the Oklahoma Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
