<item><title>Price Tower Arts Center Opens &apos;Green&apos; Exhibition on August 22</title><link>http://www.pricetower.org/media-section/media-release/?i=1388</link><description>On August 22nd, Price Tower Arts Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma&amp;nbsp;will begin the conversation through art about the environmental impact of today&amp;rsquo;s society by&amp;nbsp;utilizing the vocabulary of&amp;nbsp;upcycling, recycling, consumption and&amp;nbsp;squander.
The exhibition entitled, Imaginative Qualities of Actual Things, will explore the new world of object reassignment, presenting creative repurposed or &amp;lsquo;upcycled&amp;rsquo; objects that both stretch the imagination and suggest how to reduce the impact on the environment.&amp;nbsp; From repurposed puzzle pieces on wallpaper to oversized photographs showing the massive disposal of cell phones, this exhibition makes the audience pause in a moment of awe and personal reflection. This inaugural exhibition is a part of Price Tower Arts Center&amp;rsquo;s new Triennial exhibition series, appropriately dubbed 3-logy (pronounced trilogy), which will examine international contemporary artwork produced or manufactured in the last three years.
With over 30 objects on display, contemporary artists like Tracy Kendall and Kate Goldsworthy from Great Britain, Volksware from Germany, Anke Weiss from the Netherlands, Miwa Koizumi from Japan, Zac Freeman from Florida, and Jill Weinstock from New York will be represented at Price Tower Arts Center, 510 Dewey Avenue, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, from August 22, 2008 to January 6, 2009.
Imaginative Qualities of Actual Things addresses the serious environmental issues the world is facing in a playful and inventive way. The works are visually stunning in their own right, so that even the casual viewer will be fascinated by the creative transformation of common objects such as audio tapes, floppy disks, water bottles, newspapers, old clothes, and more.
There have been few U.S. exhibitions that have highlighted this topic of sustainability in the form of art. Imaginative Qualities may well ignite a new international dialogue from the heartland of the U.S.&amp;nbsp; It raises questions about the role of art and culture in developing a sustainable future. It offers new models for artistic practice and in the process, expanding the notion of what can be considered art. The exhibition&amp;rsquo;s concepts and contents raise questions about our society&amp;rsquo;s habits of consumption and attitudes toward the environment, natural and human resources and offer artistically conceived alternatives.
Many of the artists featured are exploring the manipulation of common objects to create secondary functions and works of art, for example, El Anatsui&amp;rsquo;s Detrius series, 2007-2008, a textile-like piece made of recycled wine bottle wrappers. Everyday objects such as puzzle pieces, electronic parts, VHS tapes, old clothing, books, newspapers, and even skyscrapers are rousing artists and designers to convey new ideas and fresh perspectives into issues of production, display, decoration and use.
Michaela Merryday, Assistant Professor of Contemporary Art History at the University of Tulsa, co-curates this exhibition along with Price Tower Arts Center&amp;rsquo;s Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, Scott W. Perkins, Ph.D. candidate in History of Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture at Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture, New York, NY. Dr. Merryday was chosen for her extensive knowledge and experience with contemporary public and political art practices.&amp;nbsp; She previously had been nominated for the Council of Graduate Schools&amp;rsquo; Distinguished Dissertation Award in 2003. She has received numerous research grants, including a number of Faculty Development Grants, a Women&amp;rsquo;s Studies Development Grant and several Kravis Travel Grants.
Dr. Merryday says, &amp;ldquo;While not all of the projects presented here offer practical or realizable solutions, they ask the audience critically to examine their own habits, their community&amp;rsquo;s environmental policies, and, in an election year, the environmental policies of the presidential candidates. Simultaneously, the exhibition seeks to inspire the audience to think about changes in their own lives and communities that would contribute toward a sustainable future. In short, the exhibition addresses issue of political currency &amp;hellip; A museum exhibition allows us to address these issues in a neutral space divorced from political partisanship. We would like this exhibition to serve as such a forum for the communities of Northeast Oklahoma.&amp;rdquo;
Mr. Perkins, who envisioned the 3-logy series, adds, &amp;ldquo;This extraordinary opportunity to collaboration with Dr. Merryday, an expert in environmental and contemporary artwork, and the University of Tulsa provides a platform for discussion with students, professors, and the general public on up-to-the minute issues in the art world.&amp;rdquo; The vibrant duo will bring some of the most innovative artworks to the doorsteps of Frank Lloyd Wright&amp;rsquo;s only built skyscraper, the Price Tower.&amp;nbsp;
The 3-logy series was formulated to encompass the three concentrations of Price Tower Arts Center&amp;rsquo;s collection &amp;ndash; art, architecture and design - with a nod to the triangularity of Frank Lloyd Wright&amp;rsquo;s Price Tower design. Each exhibition will feature up-and-coming and established artists, architects and designers whose work engages with the central theme of each triennial exhibition.

<item><title>New Products at The Wright Place in Price Tower</title><link>http://www.pricetower.org/media-section/media-release/?i=1381</link><description>Price Tower Arts Center&apos;s museum store, The Wright Place,&amp;nbsp;announces new&amp;nbsp;Frank Lloyd Wright&amp;nbsp;product arrivals, including a new Price Tower wall clock design by Bulova and a new scarf design inspired by Wright&apos;s Hillside house in Bartlesville.
Bulova&amp;rsquo;s award winning Frank Lloyd Wright Collection honors Wright&apos;s American architectural genius with an exceptional group of clocks including table top and wall models, as well as a number of uniquely stylish watches.&amp;nbsp; Each style is part of the Frank Lloyd Wright Decorative Designs Collection, certified by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, Taliesin West, Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Price Tower wall clock, manufactured by the Bulova Corporation, was adapted from the design of a brass floor medallion for the H.C. Price Company in the entryway of the Price Tower, Bartlesville, Oklahoma.&amp;nbsp; Originally an office tower with apartments, and now a museum, hotel and restaurant, this towering skyscraper was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1952 for the H.C. Price Pipeline Company.&amp;nbsp; It is considered, by Wright&amp;rsquo;s own definition, to be his only fully realized skyscraper.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; It has been designated a National Historic Landmark, and has won the American Institute of Architects&amp;rsquo; 25-Year Award for its enduring architectural design.
&amp;ldquo;Frank Lloyd Wright (1867 &amp;ndash; 1959) is recognized as one of the greatest architects of the twentieth century.&amp;nbsp; Using innovations in design and engineering made possible by newly developed technology and materials, his work heralded a new thinking in architecture, stressing &apos;organic&apos; structures in harmony with their natural surroundings,&amp;quot; according to Bulova&amp;rsquo;s website regarding their FLLW collection.
The clock retails for $89.95. The dimensions are 14&amp;rdquo;&amp;nbsp;x 14&amp;rdquo; x 1.75.&amp;rdquo;
Another Wright inspired product to wrap yourself in this fall is the new H.C. Price silk twill scarf adapted from the rug designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the foyer of the Harold Price, Jr. residence called Hillside&amp;nbsp;in Bartlesville, OK, 1954.&amp;nbsp;This beautiful design retails for $48.00 and is 60&amp;quot; long and 12&amp;quot; wide.
For these and many more ecclectic products at The Wright Place museum store,&amp;nbsp;visit online at www.wrightplacestore.com or&amp;nbsp;stop by the first floor of Price Tower Arts Center at&amp;nbsp;510 Dewey Avenue, Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

The children viewed the Setting the Table exhibition displaying dinnerware from the 1940s to 1960s and learned about the English tradition of tea using traditional tea pots, all while in the company of their favorite teddy bears.
Cheryl Lansdown and Suzanne Eder shared a variety of interactive stories about&amp;nbsp;&apos;how the teddy bear came to be.&apos;&amp;nbsp;
The children then decorated little bear cookies that were made by Sharon Campbell.&amp;nbsp; Each child decorated their own place mat and a greeting card to take away.&amp;nbsp; Guests were served tea from English teapots and bear cookies baked by Paula Wiswell.
Teddy bears were displayed by Tallgrass Doll Club members, Cora Richardson and Susan Allen.&amp;nbsp; Mary Watson and Becky Wallace volunteered as the tea party hosts.&amp;nbsp;
Tower Tots is a&amp;nbsp;program made available&amp;nbsp;by the support of 66 Federal Credit Union and&amp;nbsp;provides a contemporary museum experience as a part of the mission of the Arts Center.&amp;nbsp;

<item><title>Price Tower Arts Center Receives Challenge Grant to launch Education Programs *Correction</title><link>http://www.pricetower.org/media-section/media-release/?i=1348</link><description>(Bartlesville, OK)&amp;nbsp;The Kerr Foundation has recently granted Price Tower Arts Center with funds to support an expanded&amp;nbsp; education program, which includes outreach efforts and internships. It is the mission of Price Tower Arts Center to provide educational opportunities for audiences of all ages on the subjects of contemporary to modern art, architecture and design.&amp;nbsp;
The Kerr Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit charitable and educational Oklahoma organization, established to identify and support organizations and institutions that provide new or enhanced opportunities for those within the granting areas, particularly the young. The Kerr Foundation has awarded the Arts Center $10,000 on a challenge basis: Price Tower Arts Center must raise $20,000 by September 2008 in order to receive the $10,000 grant. The funds will be put to use by making the Arts Center&amp;rsquo;s exhibitions and collection accessible to a wider audience.&amp;nbsp; These expanded programs will enrich the cultural lives and foster creativity of students in Oklahoma and surrounding states.
&amp;bull;&amp;nbsp; Local educators organized by Price Tower Arts Center are preparing four separate study guides rated for three age groups.&amp;nbsp; These resources interpret the Arts Center&amp;rsquo;s exhibitions and collections at age-appropriate levels for use by K-12 students and their teachers. The guides link art, architecture and design to state-mandated core curriculum goals.&amp;nbsp; These materials will be made available from the Arts Center&amp;rsquo;s website as downloads, along with accompanying images of objects in the exhibitions and collections.
&amp;nbsp;
&amp;bull;&amp;nbsp;By using these guides to prepare the students ahead of their visit, teachers can improve the potential of the museum experience to impact learning.&amp;nbsp; All students age 16 and under are admitted to the museum free of charge.&amp;nbsp;
&amp;bull;&amp;nbsp;Utilizing a van recently donated by Doenges Ford Toyota Lincoln Mercury, Arts Center educators can bring collection objects to the classrooms for interactive arts activities focused around objects in the Arts Center&amp;rsquo;s collection.&amp;nbsp; These visits allow a more direct experience of the objects, and are designed to integrate art into other subject areas.&amp;nbsp;
&amp;nbsp;
&amp;bull;&amp;nbsp;To provide access for research purposes, the Arts Center&amp;rsquo;s collection catalog will be made available via a searchable database hosted on the Internet.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;
&amp;bull;&amp;nbsp;Paid internships are offered to college students in archiving, cataloging, market research, and digitization of works on paper.&amp;nbsp; The results of the interns&amp;rsquo; work will make the Arts Center&amp;rsquo;s collection more available to its audience.&amp;nbsp; Funding would allow expansion of this program.

To date, the Arts Center has raised $16,400, including $10,000 from the Norman-based Sarkeys Foundation. Sarkeys Foundation provides grants to a diverse group of non-profit organizations and institutions, almost all of which are located in Oklahoma. The support of these foundations make great programs possible, but there is still time and need to contribute to the growing arts culture of Bartlesville and meet the Kerr Foundation challenge through Price Tower Arts Center. Nearly $3600 is yet to be raised. Every bit of support provided to the Arts Center, whether by individuals, institutions or corporations, is always recognized and valued.
